New Monster High Wig, New Hair Colours and Moving Count Down

Even with less than 10 days until our cross country move, I still make time for doll stuff. I can’t resist taking time to play! I’ve been working on a new size 5 Monster High wig and it is now available in my Etsy shop at http://www.stephanieasmith.etsy.com . I was wanting to share a during picture earlier, but with packing…here is in process and finished pictures, I am very proud of this one!

Platinum and Gold Princess Wig for Monster High is Done

I had finished it last week and have been looking forward to sharing it here. But, my customers have to come first and I have been helping a wonderful lady in China try to get her hair order which is stuck in customs. No worries, all fixed.

So without further ado, my newest Monster High suri alpaca wig available in my Etsy shop at http://www.stephanieasmith.etsy.com.

I’ve also done a new colourway in Suri. I’m very excited about this one. It reminds me of Marigolds. It is in my shop now, but, if it does not sell soon, I might have to ‘steal’ it for myself. I do have a Blythe scalp on its way for my girl 🙂

Currently, I am working on another J-Doll size wig. I am using the gray, purple, pink hair that I have already wefted.

I’m at the glueing on the scalp stage and will share progress pictures soon!

Waiting for the Glue to Dry

I am in process on another glue based monster high wig. This time I am using some of my premium suri alpaca doll hair (just like I sell in my Etsy shop). I am feeling a bit fancy as this is absolutely lovely stuff!

I made the glue cap over the last few days and prepared and wefted the doll hair. Last night was the magically time to add the hair. I love that part! So here we are waiting for the glued on wefts to dry:

Doesn’t she look patient! I think that she looks rather pleased as well.

So, since I am feeling fancy using my lovely alpaca hair, I have decided to really dress up this wig. I have added a few micro braids and now am waiting for the glue to dry on them before I work further on the wig. I find that working little by little with much patience does lead to the best results. So here we are all pinned up:

Once these dry I’ll add the other braids. This will give me time to find a direction to take it from there. Part of my process is planning. But, part of my process is listening to the Muse in my mind. I do love to let inspiration talk to me in process and that can lead to whole new concepts. I will update as I work and share when I am done. I have the feeling that this will be very elaborate!

Two Different Dolls, 2 Different Wigs

Two different dolls, Two different wigs, Two different fibers, Two entirely different styles…same basic technique

One is made of my hand dyed wool and the other my own suri alpaca doll hairs. I could not resist playing with these two very different dolls and giving them each their own unique look. Both the wigs are made using the glue method. The alpaca is wefted, but the wool is attached curl by lovely curl. Both wigs are available for sale in my Etsy shop at: http://www.stephanieasmith.etsy.com

Recovering Blythe, Wig Wefts and the Dyed Rainbow

I got this poor damaged Blythe years back. I think I got her from ebay, but it has been so long that I can’t be sure. I have not really done much for her. She has been patiently waiting. She does have some definate challenges, though. Her head is glued shut for one. There are pry marks along the seam where someone tried to open her head. It is lucky she was not cracked. Her head seams, dome and body look like someone had tried to dye them. Apparently, it was not successful.

But, I brought her out yesterday with the determination to do something for her. It was not like I could throw a Blythe away (blasphemy!) And, I sure do not want her to remain in this sad condition forever. So, I sanded and sanded and sanded using a 1200 grit thin sponge. I wish that I had taken a before picture, but I didn’t think of it until this point, so here she is sanded:

And, started to paint. I did not really have any plan or theme in mind, but I just went with it. I am not the best face up Artist (putting it mildly:) but it is a lot of fun. Here is the first bit. Please excuse the lighting as it was night when I took it:

So now, I have been searching through my art closet looking for my pearl-ex. I have not found it yet, but it is sure to turn up. Also, looking for eyelashes. I know that I have a gorgeous feathery black pair around here somewhere! And, I plan to get her a new scalp. Rerooting her is not a problem , since I make and sell the hair in my Etsy shop. I know that she will be far from ‘perfect’ but I can’t wait to see how she looks when she is done!

Of course, that is not all that I have been up to lately! I have finished dyeing the rainbow hair. I had shared it two posts back when it was just started and still wet. Now it looks like this:

And, I have combed, washed, dyed and wefted for three more wigs:

Three colourways for three wigs
Three colourways for three wigs

One of the wigs is going to be the 3-3.5 inch size that fits the J-dolls. The other two, I will be forming on Monster High heads. One of the heads has ears, so it will be a fun difference. Now to peel the wefts from the paper and get out the glue!

Mermaid Mohair Wig with Chainmaille Headdress

….IS DONE! I decided to keep it simple and not add more. I really did not want to completely cover the prospective dolls’ head in decoration and so I left it as it is with all of that gorgeous soft mohair showing. It is now available in my Etsy shop at http://www.StephanieASmith.etsy.com

I’ve already started on three new wigs. One more J-doll size which is approximately 3.25 inches and two Monster High wigs which is approximately 5 inches in size. I can’t wait to get them done. I am at least going to use my super soft alpaca on two of them. I love suri alpaca doll hair!
